They both saw it happen, but they weren't distressed by it. I think they just didn't have any frame of reference for what happens if you fall on your neck from 50 feet in the air.
I was talking to them about it (they're 3 and 5) and they just said "she fell and got hurt" so I think that's as deep as it went for them. Which is good because I think the woman was very badly injured.

Oh man, that is a tough one. You are best letting that one lie there. I guess if they ask questions you could always go down the " some things are dangerous" road of discussion.

Haha yeah I wasn't really sure how to handle this. Every parent in the place was just staring with their mouth hanging open. They couldn't really move the lady either, so you could just see a gang of circus people standing around her, waiting for the paramedics to arrive.
They did fire the pony rides up again, so that probably helped take some of the attention away. It was weird though because nobody made a sound aside from the collective gasp from the crowd. TV and movies condition us to expect hysterical screams and things, but that never happened.

Hopefully the woman is alright. Did they stop the show after that, or did they go on like nothing happened?
Hopefully your kids don't think too much of it. You can probably ask them later down the road, you know when they are like 15 or 16. They probably new what happened by then. The 3 year old probably won't remember it at all.

No they did like a 10-min intermission and then went on with it! They even made the rest of the tightrope crew come out at the end to wave to the crowd. They all looked miserable.
I think the kids won't even be talking about this past tomorrow afternoon. It is a blip on their radar.
